Don Federico García Sanchíz was an old friend of El Toboso. He fell in love with the town and returned there whenever he could. He was a speaker, writer, journalist, and academic, a traveler who traveled the world speaking about Spain and everything Spanish, promoting his homeland throughout the world, which earned him worldwide recognition. Hence the famous phrase "Spain was his Dulcinea," which is inscribed both on the monument and on the tombstone in the Toboso cemetery where he rests with his wife, María Isabel Ferragut.
