If you take a leisurely stroll along the winter promenade along the Passer River, you'll see the Wandelhalle (Walking Hall). Today, it's an attraction that draws many visitors who not only want to admire the Hall of Honor, but also want to be transported back to times gone by. This was once a popular spot for spa guests, who came to sunbathe.

At the end of the 18th century, Merano was still an insignificant village.

The banks of the Passer River were used for hanging and drying laundry.

Thanks to scientific publications about the health-promoting climate of Merano
and its surroundings, the town soon rose to the status of a spa town. Magnificent houses were built, and Mayor Josef Valentin Haller had the Wandelhalle (Walking Hall) erected.

It was intended as a covered walkway for spa guests, which provoked protests from the locals, as this had always been their place.

Numerous contemporary painters, including Franz Lenhart, decorated the Wandelhalle with their works. An open picture gallery was created.

The Art Nouveau promenade, with its sweeping iron structure,
was often used for events and concerts.

Here, even today, you can immerse yourself in the tranquil world of what was once a spa town,
and, while enjoying an espresso, let your gaze wander over the magnificent Art Nouveau villas with their spires, somewhat hidden behind high hibiscus hedges.
