The castle was rebuilt in 1910. A further education school was built in 1921 by the merchant Johan Hansen from Copenhagen. The castle is used as a boarding school and can only be viewed from the outside. The castle park is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

First construction: In 1151, King Svend had a castle built as protection against the plundering of the Wends. At that time, this was the only fortress on the island of Als and King Svend called it Alsborg.

About twenty years later, a castle was built on the southern part of the Alssund, which was called Søndre Borg and Alsborg was renamed Nørre Borg.

The original castle building was destroyed in a fire and the forward defensive works were used to build the current castle. In 1911, the castle was rebuilt and used as a German university until reunification in 1920.

The further education school, Nordborg Slots Efterskole, was founded in 1921 by the wholesale merchant Johan Hansen, Copenhagen - born in Havnbjerg.

The castle buildings can only be viewed from the outside; the castle park is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
