In 2014, the new observation tower was inaugurated. Like the first one, it was designed by planner Hans Böckler. The old wooden tower had survived the State Garden Show for a long time, but then became dilapidated over time.
The “Future II” project in the Park der Gärten costs a good one million euros, and in addition to the tower, it also includes the modernization and expansion of the two main playgrounds, which have also been completed, as well as the subsequent renovations of the pavilion, making the glass house more attractive, and sanitary facilities in the Rhodopark. Funding from the joint task “Improving the regional economic structure” (GRW) amounting to 50 percent comes from the state, 30 percent from the shareholders (Lower Saxony Chamber of Agriculture, Ammerland district, Bad Zwischenahn municipality and the Lower Saxony State Garden Show Promotion Association), and the rest from donors and sponsors from the region.
