Located in the parish of Alvito, the Rossio Caves have existed since the 13th century, but were only rediscovered in the mid-20th century. These caves were created by quarrying through tunneling, from which "limestone used in the construction of millstones" was extracted.
The City Council is "making the Rossio Caves accessible for visitors," as they are a monument of great national interest.
This historical legacy is already being restored. The goal is also to build an interpretive center to make these caves the hallmark of Alvito.
