This park was developed from a rugged rocky area that was once said to be a training ground for mountain ascetics.
Jizoiwa, located in the center of the park, is a huge rock measuring approximately 45 meters high and 120 meters wide.
The history of the park is as follows:
Lively in the past: Until the early 1950s, it was a gathering place for local people, with Bon Odori dances held during the Obon festival and Buddha festivals being held here.
Devastation: Over time, festivals were no longer held and the area fell into disrepair.
Parkification: About 20 years ago, local residents formed the Minamiyamada Study Group, and in 2002 they began work on developing the area around Jizoiwa.
