Nestled in Iowa’s unique Loess Hills just east of the Missouri River Valley, Hitchcock spans over 1,200 acres of prairie, forest, and oak savanna.
From the center, an observation tower grants sweeping views across the river valley and surrounding ridges, and its trail system (14 miles of unpaved paths) invites exploration through steep ridgelines and ridged terrain.
While Lewis and Clark did not pass directly through this spot, the center anchors the regional narrative—offering interpretive programming, camping cabins, a lodge, and seasonal amenities like showers and restrooms.
