Gemona is also known for having been almost completely destroyed by the 1976 earthquake. The Duomo is mentioned as a church for the first time in a document from 1190. It stands on an embankment close to the vertical walls of Mount Glemine. It is one of the most important medieval religious monuments in the region. Continuing north on Via Bini, the heart of the town, you arrive at the town hall.

The Cathedral of Gemona, like most of the buildings here, was destroyed in the epicenter of the 1976 earthquakes (May 6th with magnitude X MM scale, September 11th VII-VIII MCS scale, September 15th X MCS scale).
