The Protestant town church of St. Boniface in Treffurt is located in the upper part of the old town and therefore has a striking effect even from a distance. The Romanesque church, dating back to the 13th century, is a well-preserved medieval building.
Unfortunately, we found the church closed.

The church was built in the early 13th century. The church originally had the floor plan of an equal-armed cross, of which the western wing was the actual nave. The oldest parts of the current church building are the choir, the transept, and the three apses on the east side. Architecturally, they date from the late Romanesque to early Gothic period (the so-called transitional style).

A special design can be seen in the two portals of the transept.

The northern portal (sandstone) is more richly decorated than the less frequently used southern one. The northern portal features a Norman zigzag ornament and columns in three tiers.
