"In Irsental, the naturally flowing waters with adjacent meadows, rocky ecosystems and coppice areas are an ideal match, as it is the habitat of a rich variety of flora and fauna with wild orchids, reindeer and reptiles as well as nearly 80 species of birds.
Overwhelming biodiversity of insects: at least 1000 species of beetles and more than 400 species of skin and two-winged species. The large butterflies were almost completely recorded with 544 species, one third of which are on the Red List of Rhineland-Palatinate! The vernacular therefore also speaks of the "valley of 1000 butterflies."
