In March 2010, the reforestation of the forest laboratory in Cologne-Marsdorf was ceremoniously started. Both the Lord Mayor of Cologne and the two CEOs of Toyota and RheinEnergie each planted a tree. Around 300 invited guests followed suit. The Cologne Forest Laboratory is an experimental field that aims to provide new insights and information about what the forest of the future will look like, how it should be managed and how the effects of climate change in Germany can be reduced. The research facility experiments in four thematic areas: the changing forest, the energy forest, the climate forest and the wilderness forest.
