The monument to the Italian Sailor is a rudder-shaped structure about 53 meters high [1] [2] which stands out over the port of Brindisi; the structure is in reinforced concrete entirely covered in carparo (compact calcarenite stone of golden color). It is colloquially known among the residents of Brindisi as "la jatta 'ssittata".

The memorial is located on the Posillipo bank. Great architecture. Inside are the names of all fallen sailors in World War I. Via a lift (almost) to the viewing platform

the monument to the Italian sailor was wanted by Mussolini and erected during the Fascist period. On the two sides there were two huge reader beams shot down after the end of the Second World War. It celebrates the sailors who died in the two wars whose names are all listed inside the crypt. From the top you can enjoy a unique panorama of the city.
