Take via del Sole behind piazza Vittorio Emanuele II towards the church of San Paolo to visit the nearby Scala Santa, so called since 1772 when the custom of granting the indulgence to those who climbed the twenty-eight steps on their knees and bowed head spread in oak wood. The stairway is very suggestive because it is surrounded by six canvases that depict the passion of Christ and retrace the story of the Gospels.
