Wanda Mound, located in Krakow on the Vistula River, is one of the city's oldest monuments. It is estimated to have been built as early as the 7th-8th century, although some scholars suggest its origins may date back even further. According to legend, it is the burial place of Wanda, daughter of the legendary Krakus. The name of the village of Mogiła (now part of Krakow) is also associated with the mound.
The origin and significance of Wanda Mound remain shrouded in mystery. It may be the burial place of the legendary princess, but it could also have had defensive, ritual, or astronomical significance. Some argue that the mound dates back to Celtic times and, along with Krakus Mound, formed part of the Celtic calendar system associated with the observation of sunrises and sunsets on the solstices.
