Sitting above the emerald waters of Kilifi Lagoon, Distant Relatives Ecolodge & Backpackers is a magical and affordable award-winning Ecolodge, Bar & Restaurant, Events Venue, Creative Hub, Educational Space, and a Digital Nomad paradise.
Designed as an experimental model of environmentally and socially conscious living, it harmonizes with nature rather than imposing upon it.
Guests can choose to cook their meals in a spacious communal kitchen with access to fridges, storage, sinks, gas stoves, and plenty of pots, pans, and utensils.
The Pool is rebuilt with new night lights and seating: a perfect place to spend the day with a good book and a cool drink! The Pool is open to both resident guests and walk in guests (at a fee).
Guarded 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, they have CCTV installed around the compound and KK Security on-call at a moment’s notice as well as Amini Security on standby.
Comfy home-made pillows inside the lounge area and by the pool, hammocks, and a tree-top teepee.
For those staying in dorms or tents, communal showers built into a bamboo forest have the wildest, most natural feel. Free high-speed internet Wifi access throughout, and quiet, airy co-working spaces.
The Creek beach is a short walk to unbelievable bioluminescence in the evenings by kayak or swimming.
Accomodation might seem a little pricy for a backpackers, but you can bring your own tent and if you're arriving by bike call to negotiate them down to about US$5 (online US$10 / Ksh 1200), Ksh 1500 for a dorm bed, to Ksh 7000 for your own room or banda in 2025, but well worth it for the amazing beauty, luxury, and atmosphere.
