King Talhae was a member of the Seok Clan. He ascended to the throne following his father-in-law, King Yuri (r. 24-57) of the Bak Clan. King Talhae is said to be the son of the king of a faraway land called Dapana. He was born as an egg, which his father considered an unlucky omen, so his father put the egg in a box with jewels and sent it out to sea. It eventually came ashore in Silla territory. A fisherman found the egg, inside which was a baby boy, who grew up to become Talhae.
