Odysseas Androutsos, one of the emblematic figures of the 1821 Revolution, was born and raised in Preveza. Until recently, the house of his mother, Akrivis Tsarambas, was preserved in Preveza.
The statue is a marble construction by the famous sculptor Nikolaos Pavlopoulos (known as "Nikolas").
On July 15, 1967, the remains of Odysseas Androutsos were transferred from Athens to Preveza and interred in a special ossuary beneath the statue.
