Originally built in Romanesque style in the 12th century, the chapel was demolished and rebuilt in 1453 at the behest of Pier Maria II de' Rossi, during the construction of the adjacent castle; erected as a parish seat in 1564, the church was raised towards the end of the 17th century; profoundly transformed in Baroque style at the beginning of the 18th century, reversing the orientation of the structure and plastering the interior, it was modified again in 1755 by raising the eighteenth-century apse; renovated between 1829 and 1831 with the reconstruction of the façade, it was restored in 1941 and structurally strengthened between 1973 and 1975; damaged by the 2008 earthquake, it was consolidated between 2011 and 2013; The place of worship retains some portions of the original building and the Rossi-designed one, visible in the stone wall facing, as well as some 18th-century paintings.
