Kennebec Pass Trailhead sits at 11,600 feet and is accessible by a long, rough Forest Service road that climbs from Junction Creek outside of Durango. The trailhead has only a small parking area and no amenities, but the scenery over the La Plata Mountains to the west and the vast San Juan backcountry in the east is stunning. Kennebec Pass Trailhead is often covered with Wildflowers in the summer and is only about half a mile from Kennebec Pass itself.
