Finnkirka, or Finnkjerka, simply translates as "church of the Finns." However, "Finns" here refers less to people of Finnish nationality than to the Sami, the indigenous people of the north. The Finnkirka rock formation, which bears a certain resemblance to a church in its shape, was formerly used by the Sami as a sacrificial site.
