The Segovia Aqueduct is an impressive architectural structure dating back to the 1st century AD and was built by the Romans during their occupation of Hispania. Its main function was to supply water to the city of Segovia, transporting it from the mountains to the city centre. The aqueduct carries water from the Fuenfría spring, located in the mountains about 17 kilometres from the city, to the centre of Segovia. The water is collected in a cistern called El Caserón and then carried through a channel of ashlars to a second tower known as Casa de Aguas. After travelling for more than 15 km, it reaches the city.

The Segovia Aqueduct is a heraldic symbol of the city and one of the most impressive works that the Romans left behind in their vast empire. If you ever have the chance to visit it, I highly recommend you do. It's truly amazing! 😊🏛️

All that is wanted to say about the aqueduct of Segovia is little. A symbol of the city, it is the perfect end to a good cycling route in the area.

The Segovia aqueduct carries the waters of the Fuenfría spring, located in the mountains near Template:17 of the city, in a place called La Acebeda. It travels more than 15 km before reaching the city. The water is first collected in a cistern known as El Caserón, to be then conducted through a channel of ashlars to a second tower (called Casa de Aguas), where it is decanted and cleared of sand, to continue on its way. Then it runs 813 m (with a slope of 1%)2 to the top of the Postigo (the rocky spur on which the city was based around the Alcázar). Before, in the Plaza de Día Sanz, it makes a sharp turn and heads towards the Plaza del Azoguejo, where it saves the depression with an archway, which presents all the splendor of the monument. In the highest part it measures 28 m (with about 6 m of foundations) and has two orders of arches on pillars. In total, it has 167 arches.
