Eight days before the end of the Second World War, the Baumgarten Bridge, including the then 4 bronze sculptures (2 greyhounds & 2 wild cats), was blown up by the Wehrmacht. In the course of the reconstruction, Russian pioneers found the 4 sculptures and brought them to their new home in the Brandenburg town of Wünsdorf to the bunkers Maybach I and II, the established High Command of the Soviet Occupation Forces West, where they adorned the entrance portal of the General Staff building.
Fortunately, about 50 years later, an attentive woman from Geltow discovered the two cat sculptures when they were accidentally filmed during a television broadcast. With the help of a colonel from the Henning von Treskow barracks, the citizens' initiative that was set up was able to recover the two sculptures and put them back on the Baumbartenbrücke on September 6, 1994, while there is still no trace of the greyhounds.

Originally there were four figures: two otters and two greyhounds. After the new building, the otter was put back in its place, the greyhounds remain missing. The view from the bridge is fantastic.
