Pound Pits is a small wildlife area sporting a vast sunflower field, gravel pit, and fishing area. The Iowa DNR reports it’s about 18 acres of water. Located right off Highway 144 (U Ave). I entered through the west entrance, which was a single track that led from the highway to the fishing area, past the sunflowers. There’s another entrance on the North, but the gate was shut when I was there. The DNRs map shows another, longer road that goes into the wildlife area, alongside the sunflowers for a ways before coming to a halt where the tree line thickens. Fishing and hunting are allowed on the premises.
