TREATY OF MELNO 1422
The Treaty of Peace concluded in 1422 by the Grand Duchy of Lithuania (GDL) and the Livonian Order. On the grounds of this Treaty Klaipėda Region was occupied by the Order, whereas GDL got Samogitia and Užnemunė.
MARKETS
The 16th saw the origins of such markets, which used to be announced by priests as follows: "A devilish market will start before sunrise where cursing, false oaths, gobbling, lap will no longer be sins...".
KANT CAFÉ
The region was famous for its exceptional inns, confectionaries, and fancy restaurants established in Šilokarčema, Žibai, and Verdainė. Richard Kant, great-grandfather of the famous philosopher Immanuel Kant, also owned inns here.
MANOR 1721
The Nobility Manor in Šilokarčema (Šilutė) was established in 1721 upon formation of Šilokarčema Municipality and establishment of a state manor for its management purposes.
FLOOD
One of the biggest floods was recorded in 1829, when the old Šilutė market remained flooded until summer.
