Lake Kulkwitz in western Leipzig is suitable for a variety of leisure activities. In summer, it's a popular swimming destination, and there's a waterskiing facility on the Miltitz side.
Otherwise, the Kulki, as it's also called, is ideal for hikers and cyclists year-round. A lap around the lake is about ten kilometers long. While it's easily possible to do it with a hybrid bike in summer, mountain biking is recommended in winter, as the forest paths on the Markranstädt side become muddy.
Lake Kulki is easily accessible from several directions: from the west directly from Markranstädt, from the east from Lausen-Grünau and Miltitz, and from the south from the Plagwitz-Pörsten cycle path. Public transport connections are excellent, including trams and buses (lines 1, 61, 161, 62, 65, and 66 on the Leipzig side, and line 65 on the Markranstädt side).
Supermarkets are located nearby in Miltitz and Lausen as well as Markranstädt.
