The evocative and mysterious atmosphere surrounding Lake Accesa is a source of ancient legends, passed down orally from father to son.
The history of the lake is closely linked to that of the Etruscans, who settled here as early as the 6th century BC, where they discovered important mineral deposits for metal production in the surrounding areas.
The Etruscan industrial district developed in the hilly area near the lake, where today, a natural park, some tombs and remains of urban neighborhoods are visible.
Industrial activity continued in the following centuries, from the Roman period until the 18th century.
