This station can be reached via a narrow path between the forest and the field. In the summer the path is overgrown so that it can become "narrow" in some places.

Since 1950, three large stone tombs from the younger Stone Age date from around 3500 BC. Around the village. Further excavations unearthed 18 megalithic stones from the underground, which consist of brown coal quartzite and seemingly randomly distributed around the place. There is also a capstone weighing almost 200 hundredweight under the stones. In terms of construction, the stone grave of Groß Steinum is similar to that of the Lübbensteine near Helmstedt. In the area of the stones, numerous bones and potsherds were found, which were dated to the younger phase of deep engraving ceramics. It can be assumed that the burial chamber in an early phase of this culture, around 3500 to 3400 BC. Chr. Was built. A second, poorly preserved grave southeast of the village was opened in 1994, while a third, however, was destroyed by construction. The “Großsteingrab Groß Steinum” adventure trail of the Ostfalen Open-Air and Adventure Museum (FEMO) leads around the fencing cliff. Here you can visit the so-called "Stone Chamber of Groß Steinum", a reconstructed megalithic tomb.

When the burial chamber was reconstructed in 1960, the excavator oriented himself largely to the well-preserved Lübbensteine grave near Helmstedt. He reconstructed a chamber with five pairs of support stones, 2 gable stones and 4 cap stones.

The hike begins at the Bockshornklippe parking lot on the northern edge of Groß Steinum. From there you can see the site of the “Great Stone Grave Bockshornklippe” site immediately. The tour has to wait a little longer, however, because first the short hike to the “Großsteingrab am Dorm” is on the program.

Following the signs with the no. 3, the first steep climb leads in the direction of Heineberg im Dorm. If this effort is overcome, you will be compensated with a wonderful view of the great landscape: The view sweeps over Groß Steinum to the Elm and above Königslutter you can see the high spiers of the mighty Kaiserdom, a magnificent building from the Romanesque.

The hike now leads along the edge of the forest on the asphalt road down to the valley and after about 400 meters you reach the junction to the large stone grave. On this idyllic path you will reach the destination of the hike, the “Großsteingrab am Dorm”. Here you can find everything you need to know about the relocated and reconstructed grave on an information board.

After an extensive tour of the grave, the way back leads us on the same path and a little later on the dirt road back to Groß Steinum. When the mighty tuberous quartzites formed around 70 million years ago on the outskirts of Groß Steinum have been reached again, the second visit can begin. The numerous information boards on the premises at the fenugreek bring us closer to life and the technical possibilities in the Stone Age. You will be amazed at how creative and resourceful our early ancestors were.

At the end of this little expedition into the past, the small group of seats at the “construction site of large stone graves” invites you to have a picnic.
