17.09.2017 - Gumpoldskirchen, which is congruent with the sole cadastral parish of the same name, is located on the thermal bath line and borders the parishes of Guntramsdorf, Gaaden, Pfaffstätten and Traiskirchen. The municipal area extends from the flat Vienna Basin to the forest areas of the Anninger, which is already part of the Vienna Woods. Gumpoldskirchen does not, as one might assume, border on Mödling, as there is also a strip of the municipality of Guntramsdorf in the middle of the vineyards between the two places. 😊👍👍👍

Settlement: Dating back to prehistoric times.
1140: first documented mention. The name is derived from the cathedral provost "Gumpold von Passau"
14th century: Gumpoldskirchen becomes a market place and the seat of a district court.
15th century: The wine industry reaches its first peak
1529: Turkish invasion
1559: The imposing town hall with its arcades is built and the town grows vigorously. Beautiful town houses in the Renaissance style are built.
1648: After the 30-year war, the economic decline begins.
1683: Turkish War
1763: Maria Theresia sells the place to Feiherr von Moser
End of the 18th century: Beginning of the industrial age, establishment of a silk mill and a button factory.
After 1850: Viticulture experienced a new boom
1884: Phylloxera Phylloxera destroys all wine cultures
End of the 19th century: Wine growing recovers, establishment of a wine school
In this century, Gumpoldskirchen developed into an important wine-growing, tourist and industrial town. The rural structure as an island in the countryside could be preserved and a lively club life with e.g. 7 choirs make Gumpoldskirchen a place where you can feel good for locals and guests alike.
