Jukiškės Chapel – the Holy Eucharist Ecumenical Chapel was built on the homestead of the folk artist Juozapas Jakštas, dedicated to the 2000th anniversary of Christianity. The chapel houses impressive, artistic works depicting the sufferings, joys and events of God and Lithuania.
Juozapas Jakštas was born in 1940. Since 1978, he has dedicated his life to public activity and art. He was one of the first in Lithuania to restore chapel pillars and crosses. The folk artist created more than 200 wooden sculptures, tombstones, bas-reliefs, altars, and decorative carvings. The author’s creative themes are associated with the old Baltic faith, the history of the nation, cultural values, and a vision of the future.
