A walk through Moura is best started at Largo da Mouraria, in the former Moorish quarter. Here, the mists of the past from the former great empire of Gharb Al-Andalus on the Iberian Peninsula linger. Like rays of stars, narrow alleys wind from the access road past the former Matadouro Municipal slaughterhouse toward the market square at the foot of the castle. Whitewashed farmhouses stand closely together, lined with flowerpots along their walls.
