Seating with tables is available at the hut. So if you need a break, you're in good hands there in a beautiful location with a sensational backdrop. You shouldn't rely too much on the hut being open.

In the middle of the São Lorenço peninsula there is a small hut surrounded by palm trees. The stone hut has been a tourist destination since 1905 and today houses a small exhibition on the nature reserve of São Lorenço. There are several picnic tables in front of the hut and there is a small barbecue area. You can also camp in a nearby area.

The house is normally open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., although it is sometimes closed in bad weather.

Great tour, but very crowded most of the time. As mentioned above, the early start is worthwhile because otherwise you are allowed to line up in the narrow passages. The views of the sea and the rock formations are amazing. Incidentally, the oasis itself is supplied with supplies by boat, but we only hiked by and did not stop there.

Warning: you shouldn't rely on the toilets, they are often closed because the flush/drain is clogged (despite the note: "don't throw paper in the toilet", throw some paper in anyway)

You can also book the return trip with a small speedboat to the Marina/Hotel/Resort Lorde for €10 per adult. From the water you have a completely different view of the coast and you get some explanations about the vegetation. Madeira's largest animal (elephant) can also be seen better from the water.

There are small snacks, drinks, seating (also in the shade) and a toilet (1€). The land route here leads over a “few” steps and along the southern coast. Great views!
Even if some walk the path in flip flops or Adilettes, I still recommend sturdy shoes.

Last rest before the final climb. The hut is not always open, so make sure you bring enough water yourself! And with the crowds, it's like everywhere else - the early bird catches the worm. In the early morning or late afternoon, you can definitely be alone here.
