The Jammerdal is a beautiful nature reserve located between Venlo and Tegelen, with special flora and fauna. Definitely worth a visit!

The Jammerdal is located in the municipality of Venlo southeast of the city and forms the transition from the high terrace to the lower Meuse floodplain. The Stichting Limburgs Landschap owns several areas in Jammerdal.
Clay has been dug in this area since Roman times. The old, hand-made excavations still form unique refuges for amphibians and dragonflies.

The higher terrace consists primarily of mixed forest. Allotment gardens and horse pastures are currently on the lower terrace. The high terrace through which the Molenbach flows is more diverse than the low terrace. In addition to deciduous and coniferous stands, ferns, numerous types of moss and mushrooms can be found here. In the north of the area there are still small heath areas where sand lizards and lizards occur. There are important spring areas along the edge of the terrace. Here there are isolated alder forests with swamp sedge and irises. Willow swamps in the northwest offer an ideal habitat for the nightingale. Numerous other breeding bird species occur here. There are also foxes, deer and badgers here. The Jammerdal is an important link in the biotope network between the Brachter and Brüggen forests and the area of the Groote Heide / Krickenbecker lakes. To maintain this function, a fauna bridge was planned as a compensatory measure when planning the A 61 between Tegelen and Kaldenkirchen.
