Since 2019, an ambitious project has been underway to connect the Kerkennah archipelago to Sfax Airport via helicopter or small plane shuttles. Led by the Tunisian Ministry of Tourism and announced by René Trabelsi, this project also includes the creation of a local tourism office and the promotion of the island as a "dream island" for English-speaking visitors.
However, no concrete progress has been made since its announcement. The project currently appears to be on hold, with no official timeline for completion.
To date, no scheduled flights are operating, and no infrastructure is operational. Helicopters are used only for hospital emergencies and military reasons.
