Finally, on Colle di Serrabotini there are numerous remains of pre-industrial extraction wells dating back to the 13th-15th century. Some wells are still open and have been made safe, but most are now blocked by debris, so they appear as circular depressions or, less frequently, with a rectangular and square section. Numerous slags from the smelting of iron, copper and pyrite have been found at the mouth of the wells. Many wells are still characterised by stone walls that surround the internal walls and for this reason they are considered among the best preserved examples of medieval mining excavation.
