The so-called Saint John's Cross
This two-sided, folk-style cross with flattened ends bears a depiction of Christ on the cross on one side and, on the other, likely an ecce homo, a representation of Christ wearing a crown of thorns. Originally, it would have been raised on a shaft. Located at a crossroads, it was probably a crossroads cross whose function was to protect travelers at a time when insecurity was omnipresent.
