In June 2009, a museum dedicated to the painter, draftsman and poet Roger Loewig (1930-1997) opened in Bad Belzig. The Roger Loewig Museum is located in the Belzig home where the artist found refuge and work opportunities with a couple of friends between his release from prison and his move to the West. His imprisonment was triggered by propaganda allegations about his first exhibition.
