The Royal Castle Berchtesgaden is a former Augustinian Monastery in Berchtesgaden, whose beginnings date back to around 1102 and which, after several renovations, also served as the residence of the Prince Provost of Berchtesgaden. From 1810 it was owned by the Bavarian royal family and is now the property of the Wittelsbacher Ausgleichsfonds.

A variety of different stylistic epochs characterize the Royal Palace of Berchtesgaden: from Romanesque to Gothic and Baroque to Rococo. Over the centuries it has been expanded and changed again and again. The cloister and its late Romanesque sculptural decoration document its high medieval origins. The former monastery served the Wittelsbach family as a hunting lodge after 1818. Crown Prince Rupprecht of Bavaria (1869-1955) lived here with his family from 1922 to 1933 and had the rooms furnished with exhibits from the Wittelsbach art collection.
