    Margarethenwall is part of the complex Danewerk, one of the most important constructions of the early Middle Ages. Nowadays, the paths on and next to the wall offer many walkers a great change from the usual paths across the fields.

            The Margarethenwall is located in Busdorf very close to the Skarthi stone. The route to Margarethenwall is well signposted, but parking spaces must be found.
            The Schleswig-Holstein State Archaeological Office (ALSH) and the Upper Monument Protection Authority are responsible for this natural monument.
            The ALSH information sign contains the following information:
            -The Margarethenwall -named after the Danish Queen Margarethe (died 1412) or the -Swarten Gret- (died 1282)- is also scientifically called the -connecting wall-. It is part of the Danewerk, the defense system on the Schleswig Isthmus. The Busdorf Gorge, a silted and drained continuation of the Busdorf Pond, divides it roughly in the middle.
            In the west, the 3.3 km long Margarethenwall begins on the banks of the former Dannewerker See. It then runs for around 600 m as a double wall and continues in a single line towards the east to Haithabu. To the north of the double wall lies the poorly preserved arched wall.
            There were extensive archaeological investigations in the area of the double wall. They revealed that it had been provided with a dam-like wooden substructure in damp areas.
            The body of the rampart itself consisted of earth embankments, sod embankments and a ditch in front of it. Salvaged timbers provided a date of 968 for the first of three construction phases. B.C.-
