In the forests near the village of Wilkocin, there is a memorial site for a German pilot. It is a granite stone with a plaque of intentions and the sign of the Iron Cross. It commemorates Helmuth Rusche, who died on August 28, 1919. The date "July 1919" is also inscribed on the monument, suggesting that this was when he became a pilot and was perhaps shot down and died of his wounds at the end of August. There are speculations that the monument was created thanks to Helmuth's father, General Rudolf Rusche. This place may have once been used as a landing strip for airplanes, because maps from that period show a small grove there, not a dense forest.
