From the late 1800s onwards, the furniture industry developed: two factories, Danielssons (est. 1900) and Bohmans (1905), shaped the village. The Bohmans factory closed in 1960, and Danielssons in 1978. The mill continued to operate until 1972. Unfortunately, today everything is privately owned, and not everywhere is it possible to directly access the old houses.
The village developed around a water-powered mill on the Björnån River stretch between Björnasjön and Hjortesjön. A mill may have existed there as early as the 15th century, followed by a tull mill in the 17th century. A new mill was built around 1870.
A dyeing factory and a tannery were established in the 19th century, and a dairy was added in the 1880s.
