Dohlenstein Castle was first mentioned in 1337, but it was built earlier to protect the Zittau region after the death of Přemysl Ottokar II.
The castle has been abandoned since 1607.

Very nice and romantic overnight stay in the ruined castle Tollenstein in the Lusatian Mountains.
Very nice hosts. You get good Czech beer and delicious food.
An evening stroll through the castle is included for a small fee.

A trip to the Middle Ages to the Tollenstein castle ruins was our goal today. The ruin lies on the back of the Zittau Mountains in what is now Czech territory. It was first mentioned in 1337 and has always played an important historical role. We - as generation Ü20 - start on the market square of Sankt Georgenthal. The church is beautiful - but locked with a grate - you can have a look inside.
The hiking trail leads past partially restored half-timbered houses. No trace of the "former Czech construction method".
One is also amazed at the small weekend houses - here city people flee to the country with a lot of money.
You can also drive almost to the ruins of the castle and walk the last 300 meters. There is a beautiful view at the top (the entrance to the top is worthwhile) and the pub has beer and dumplings.
So - off to Tollenstein - a great piece of home!

An extremely worthwhile vantage point in the middle of old castle walls including a hiking restaurant - what more could you ask for. The view is particularly worthwhile to the north and to the Tannenberg. Entrance fee for the upper part of the castle (as of 05/2022): 30 crowns per person.

The extensive ruins of Tolštejn Castle are located 1.5 km from Jedlová Hill in the Lužické Mountains. It stands on a bell-shaped hillock (670 m a.s.l.) in a sandstone area. Its name originated from the original German name Dohlenstein (Crow Castle). The castle was one of the strongholds of the extensive estate of the Warenberg branch of the Markvatic family in northern Bohemia. The first mentions of the castle come from the 13th century and it is known that the first owner was Vaník from Vartenberk. The demise of the castle was brought about by the Thirty Years' War, when it was set on fire and demolished. In the 19th century, romanticism brought a revival of interest in the castle, and in 1866 a restaurant was built here.
