The entire trail is a highlight for me! We chose the upper entrance as our starting point and were able to enjoy the view along the spectacularly built newer levada without much effort. However, if you're not afraid of heights, there are a few tricky sections!
Along the way, there's a long, pitch-black tunnel, a waterfall you can walk behind, and countless amazing views.
On the left, several steps overcome the elevation difference to the older levada. This one channels the water down at a much steeper gradient through the lush fauna of the mountainside.
I think this direction—from top to bottom—is the less strenuous, as the elevation gain at the end is easier on the road in the village than off-road.
