The Marcali Reservoir is an artificial lake with a water surface area of four hundred hectares. It was created in order to protect the water quality of Lake Balaton by damming the Sári Canal and the Boronkai Stream in the early 1980s. Its main task is to clean the water flows coming to Lake Balaton and to receive the purified wastewater coming from Marcali. It is a wonderful sight even when the water is drained. A real bird's paradise.

I was there three or four times in 2024 and 2025. I only stopped briefly to take a few photos and then moved on. Sometimes there was staff on site, but I never had any problems. Was someone being a bit overzealous?
