David Alton Ure (1910-1953) was a teacher, farmer and minister of agriculture. Ure was born and raised at Delburne, Alberta. In the 1930s he taught at Clarendon and later Innisfail, where he also operated a small farm on the outskirts of town. He retired from teaching a few years later and worked for farm equipment and auctioneering businesses. In 1943 he was elected to the legislature as part of Ernest Manning's Social Credit government. Ure retained his seat and advanced to the position of minister of agriculture, a portfolio he held until his death in 1953. In addition to his numerous interests and activities, Ure was a member of the Lions Club and the Knights of Pythias. The David Ure Park is in the York neighbourhood and has an area of 0.95 ha.
