The neglected park at Zierker See may be awakened from its slumber. There are initial plans for this.

The city of Neustrelitz wants to bring the castle paddock into shape. Mayor Andreas Grund announced this at the most recent city council meeting. During an initial discussion with the city forester and experts from the administration, it was agreed that the main network of paths would be signposted and that benches, bark houses and the Hobe monument would have to be maintained and repaired if necessary. It is not in the spirit of the city to let the area become a "jungle or wilderness forest". According to Andreas Grund, sponsorship and funding should be raised. Own funds are to be included in the budget. The considerations are at the very beginning. The next step is to discuss ideas and options in public and in the committees.

At present, the paddock offers a unkempt picture. Paths are broken, signposts and benches are missing, trees and branches lie all over the place. The last time the site was properly shaped was in the late 1990s. Since then there has only been repair work. Those familiar with the area avoid the wooded area on the Zierker See.
