The village of Klyazminsky Gorodok is the oldest settlement in the Kovrov land. In ancient times, it was the city of Starodub on the Klyazma. In the 12th century, the ancient Russian city of Starodub stood here - one of the main outposts in the east of Vladimir-Suzdal Rus. In the pre-Mongol era, Starodub was the center of an appanage principality, which was ravaged by uninvited guests in 1238, 1410 and 1609. Thus, in March 1609, the voivode of the impostor False Dmitry II, Pan Lisovsky, with a detachment of Poles and traitorous Cossacks, stormed and completely destroyed this outpost on the Klyazma (by that time it was called Klyazemsky Gorodok), and also burned the surrounding villages. Since then, the city was not restored, and in the immediate vicinity of the ramparts appeared in 1614-1619. "New Klyazemsky Gorodok". Probably, such a name emphasized the fact that this settlement was built practically anew. After the events of the Time of Troubles, Klyazemsky Gorodok had a new owner. Tsar Mikhail Fyodorovich granted it to the nobleman Vasily Bogdanovich Buturlin. In 1658, Klyazemsky Gorodok passed from V. B. Buturlin to the stolnik, Prince Vladimir Ivanovich Volkonsky. One of the subsequent owners of Klyazemsky Gorodok, state councilor, Prince Pyotr Aleksandrovich Volkonsky ordered the construction of a stone church in the village in 1790. By 1803, the construction was completed, a little later a 40-meter bell tower was built, decorated with pediments, pilasters and half-columns. This bell tower gives the Pokrovsky Church a unique, distinctive appearance, standing on a high hill on the bank of the Klyazma, and is visible from far away from its bends.
