The name ceiling Tönnes (Tönnes = Toni = Antonius) comes from a saint figure in a small chapel just below the highest point of the L234 directly to the right of the road.

A plaque at the chapel informs: “The wooden figure of St. Anthony of Egypt standing in this chapel is therefore called 'Tönnes ceiling' because it is larger than life and, before the chapel was built around 1900, stood freely on a high plinth. According to legend, a trading Jew or a farmer from the area built the chapel as a fulfillment of a vow. According to the restorer Brühl, who worked on the sculpture a few years ago on behalf of the parish Effelsberg and replaced missing parts - the left hand with the Bible and the shepherd's staff with the two bells - it was made in the late Middle Ages (15th / 16th century) probably built in Steinfeld Monastery. ... ”
