The cave was discovered in 1956. It is a cave that has been buried for many decades and was only found again in quarry work. In the deposits traces of more than 130 animal species were detected. According to the findings to date, the numerous salvaged animal remains and also a few stone tools and Silexabschläge still belong to the penultimate Ice Age. With an age of more than 200,000 years, these are the oldest traces of human life known in Bavaria. The excavations showed that the presence of humans can be demonstrated in almost all strata. Also proven are u. a. Cave bear, cave lion, cave hyena, wolf, ice and red fox. The re-dating makes the discovery of 1986 of a human molar from Hunas to the classic Neanderthals and thus oldest hominids from Bavaria.
