The Rio Claro station was opened in 1897 and was the end of the line for many years until the opening of the Lídice station thirteen years later.
Between 1946 and 1956, the city and the station were called Itaverá. They then restored their original name.
The current station building is not the original one from 1897. The original was made of wood and, in 1909 (see below), was in very poor condition. A new building, which is the one that still existed in 2003, was built later, on an undetermined date and after 1922.
