The design for this red sandstone obelisk was created by the Privy Councillor Enger from Altenburg.
The bronze medallion was created by the Dresden sculptor Robert Henze.
The monument was dedicated on the occasion of Krause's 100th birthday in 1881. Above the portrait of Krause are his last words in gold letters.
In 1902, the square was renamed "Krauseplatz" in honor of this famous philosopher.
